An array of figures often paired facing off against each other with space in between. This series represents a time for me when I was seeking to understand the methods that other artists used to paint. I was investigating different ways to show human qualities that can sometimes be singular faces or with bodies. The inspiration comes from artists that led me to pursue emulating them. So in the spirit of de Kooning, Twombly, and Picasso, I learned through this series that emulating my predecessors was harder than I thought. I moved out of this series once I felt like I found my own mastery of it.
